For the series "/imagine", Jauss & Gauger combine artistic conception and artificial intelligence to explore new territories for the visual arts. As a starting point, they use authors' original text passages that describe the appearance of well known literary characters, such as Fitzgerald's "Jay Gatsby" or Tolstoi's "Anna Karenina". These quotes, fed as prompts into the AI-platform "Midjourney", are then visualized by the bot. The style of the generated images vary, from historic oil painting to highly detailed contemporary photography, largely determined by the bot. From there, the artists take their cues for the execution of the artwork, be it as an oil painting done in their own studio, or commissioned at "Dafen Art village", Shenzen, or as a fine art photo print.
